Adjustable Beds Buying Guide
An electric adjustable bed raises and lowers the head and foot sections at the push of a button. You can sit up to read or watch TV, raise your legs, and find the position that is most comfortable for you.
Bed sets or bases
- Adjustable bed sets: the electric base and a mattress made to bend with it, from pocket springs to memory foam and gel. Most of our adjustable beds are sets.
- Adjustable bases and frames: the electric base on its own, if you already have a suitable mattress. See adjustable bed mattresses.
Who it suits
- Anyone who reads or watches TV in bed, without a pile of pillows.
- People who find it hard to get comfortable lying flat, or who like their legs raised.
- Anyone with limited mobility: sitting up first makes it easier to get out of bed. A height adjustable base also raises the whole bed.
Couples
Most adjustable beds are single, small double or double. For couples, two single adjustable beds side by side, or a super king twin, let each person choose their own position.
Choosing the mattress
Each set comes with a mattress that flexes with the base. Most are medium firm. Read how to choose a mattress for how you sleep.

How does an electric adjustable bed work?
An electric motor raises and lowers the head and foot sections of the base at the push of a button, so you can sit up, raise your legs or lie flat.
Do adjustable beds come with a mattress?
Most of our adjustable beds are sets with a mattress made to bend with the base. We also sell adjustable bases on their own and adjustable bed mattresses separately.
Can couples have an adjustable bed?
Yes. Two single adjustable beds side by side, or a super king twin, let each person choose their own position.
What sizes do adjustable beds come in?
Most of our adjustable beds come in 2'6 small single, 3'0 single, 4'0 small double and 4'6 double, with a super king twin for couples.
